“Frosh score plum Senate committees”

“Senate Republican leaders on Thursday rolled out their committee assignments for the new Congress, handing some plum jobs to their four conservative freshmen.

“Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a former state solicitor general and one of only three Hispanic Americans in the chamber, landed on the Judiciary Committee, which will have oversight of any immigration reform bills and potential nominations for the Supreme Court.

“…Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, who is expected to play a role in the immigration debate as he did in the House, will join Cruz on the Judiciary Committee. Flake will also serve on the Foreign Relations and Energy committees.

“…Committee assignments for the 113th Congress still must be approved by the 45-member GOP conference and full Senate.  And members of each panel will meet to elect their ranking members, though there won’t likely be any surprises.”
