“Romania: Immigration Bulletin – EU Blue Card Issuance To Start in 2012”

Move One, Inc, January 6, 2012

“Yet another European Union member state has announced the implementation of the EU blue card procedure. Effective January 1, 2012, Romanian authorities are ready to accept EU blue card applications from highly qualified third country nationals who have an employment contract with a company in Romania and possess the required qualifications.

“…Eligible blue card applicants in Romania will benefit from a shorter immigration process, with their blue cards processed within 15 days instead of the usual 30 days prescribed for standard work permit requests. In addition, blue cards are to be issued without the need to search the local labor market for potential candidates prior to work permit application.

“…A blue card is to be valid for the period of an employment contract plus three months, for a maximum of two years. In case of an unlimited employment contract, extension of the card is possible every two years.
Among the benefits is the possibility for a blue card holder to accumulate the periods of stay in various EU states in order to fulfill the conditions for obtaining a long term residence permit related to the minimum stay period ( i.e. 5 years)."
