ACIP Commends Agency Action Streamlining L-1 Visa Application Process

Improved Efficiency Will Help U.S. Employers Plan Their Workforce Needs

Washington, D.C. – The American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) today applauded U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for their administrative action to create a more efficient and predictable L-1 visa application process by allowing employers to bundle their visa petitions. This move to streamline the process will help ACIP’s members more predictably manage their key global talent, especially for employees with specialized knowledge, for the benefit of U.S. economic growth and job creation.

“By streamlining the visa process and enabling U.S. employers to more predictably access top talent, they will be able to better run their businesses, grow the U.S. economy and create jobs,” said ACIP Executive Director Lynn Shotwell. “We thank Director Mayorkas and the agency for recognizing the needs of U.S. employers in a global and interconnected economy.”

ACIP noted that while yesterday’s action was crucial, more needs to be done to ensure that the L-1 visa system works for the needs of the U.S. economy. ACIP pointed to a report released yesterday by the National Foundation for American Policy that found a steep decrease in L-1 visa approvals in India versus the rest of the world for 2011, and questioned whether this was “conscious policy at U.S. posts in India,” as further evidence that a larger agency effort is needed to address mounting concerns.

“We will continue to work with the agency and all stakeholders to keep the L-1 visa petition process consistent and predictable for U.S. employers as they work to bolster the U.S. economy and drive job creation,” concluded Shotwell.
