ACIP Praises House Passage of America COMPETES Reauthorization Act

Measure Includes Sense of Congress that U.S.-Educated Foreign-Born Talent is Critical to America’s Innovation Economy

Washington, D.C. – The American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing H.R. 5116, the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010, which authorizes investments in scientific research and math and science education.  The legislation included an amendment offered by Representatives Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) expressing the sense of Congress that retaining graduate-level talent trained at U.S. universities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields is critical to enhancing the competitiveness of American businesses.

ACIP applauds the U.S. House of Representative for passing the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act and supporting expanded American innovation leadership and opportunities for the U.S. workforce.

We also commend the House for including the Quigley-Flake sense of Congress amendment and recognizing the importance of foreign-born professionals to U.S. economic growth and job creation for all Americans.

Again, we applaud the House for making this investment in our nation’s future, and we now urge the Senate to pass it without delay.
