ACIP Urges Senate Commerce Committee to Approve America COMPETES Reauthorization Act

Measure Critical to America’s Innovation Economy and U.S. Workforce

Washington, D.C. – The American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) today urged members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee to approve S. 3605, the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010.  The Committee is scheduled to markup the legislation tomorrow, July 22, 2010.  The Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year.

The America COMPETES Reauthorization Act makes critical investments in scientific research and math and science education, which will expand American innovation leadership and opportunities for the U.S. workforce.

“The United States must develop a highly educated workforce with the skills and training needed to grow the American innovation economy,” said ACIP Executive Director Lynn Shotwell.  “The America COMPETES Reauthorization Act makes the investments in math and science education and research that will help better build America’s workforce of tomorrow, and we urge members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee to approve it without delay so that it can be enacted into law this year.”

ACIP, along with other associations, coalitions and companies, has signed a letter to the Senate endorsing the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act.  Click here for a copy of the letter.
